A Moment to Give Thanks… and Reflect on 15 Years of Fun

November is a month to count your blessings… eat a little too much… and spend lots of time with friends, family and loved ones.   As FGC enters it’s 15 th year in business, I find there is much to reflect on and many blessings to count from the last 15 years.

When I commuted here from Orange County with my first big client, Mayor Sonny Bono and the City of Palm Springs in the 80s, and then to consult with Spotlight 29 Casino as their Senior Marketing Strategist in the late 1990s, I never imagined I would move here, start a small business, and find my happiness in this desert paradise.  I was a beach girl at heart, part mermaid, and in love with watching the Disneyland fireworks from my backyard oasis.  Or so I thought.

Working with the 29 Palms Band of Cahuilla Indians and the Trump Resorts & Casino team for almost 3 years to take Spotlight 29 Casino through a complete renovation and grand re-opening, I began to understand the appeal of the Coachella Valley with it’s dry heat, gorgeous mountain views and great lifestyle.  So after working for The Donald, now better known as Mr. President, it seemed only natural to convince my hubby to move out here to the wide-open skies, and the chance to start a new chapter.

In October of 2002, with one team member, I responded to a Request for Proposal from the City of Palm Desert to market the business zone of El Paseo.  Having been a Marketing Director at several key shopping centers in Orange County, this seemed like a perfect fit for my first foray into owning my own advertising agency.  Lo and behold, we successfully landed the account and the rest is history!  They are still a client today, and looking back over 15 years of marketing this amazing street would fill a book, or another blog!

From those small beginnings, the agency has worked with many of the major organizations here in the Valley including City of Palm Desert, City of La Quinta, McCallum Theater, Living Desert Zoo & Gardens, Palm Springs Art Museum, Jensen’s Finest Foods, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices, Desert Regional Medical Center, various art galleries, restaurants, small businesses and more.  Today, we enjoy working with Desert Cancer Foundation, Arrowhead Regional Media Center, Joshua Tree Gateway Communities, Family YMCA and a score of other businesses.

So let’s do some math… it amounts to 150+ clients, 64,080 days, 9765 projects and so many wonderful team members, some of who are still with me today.  Jeff Day, Creative Director, worked with me at Spotlight 29 Casino and together we created the new brand that endures today, making it 17 years that we’ve been making advertising magic together.  Cindy Czarnowski came on board in year 2, and still runs the day-to-day operations with kindness and efficiency that is unmatched.

Together, out team has created new brand solutions, ad campaigns, radio and TV spots, publicity outreach and coverage while forging deep relationships with the media and the community at large. We’ve served on non-profit boards, donated our services to promote events and become early adopters of any and all marketing outreach tactics including website development, social media optimization and overall, strategic insights for our clients that bring heightened awareness and revenues.  And along the way, we’ve gathered over 100 awards from around the globe for marketing campaigns in all disciplines.

So enough with the recap and the salesy language… basically, it’s been a complete blast and more fun than I could have imagined.  I still wake up every day with a sense of excitement and adventure to see what knotty marketing problem I can sink my teeth into, or what new idea I can adopt for our clients.

Since the traditional gift for 15 years is crystal, we’ve been celebrating with a lot of champagne and planning for 15 more.  Stop by sometime and hang out with us in our new modern marketing creative space ( offices are so last year! ), complete with our Madmen bar and lounge!  We can spin a few tales, tell a few stories, and shoot the breeze talking about what’s new, what’s hot and how much we love our Valley.

I’m forever thankful for this opportunity, for all of my mentors that led me to this place, to the many clients past, present and future, and to my cute hubby for believing in me and putting up with my obsession.

Happy Thanksgiving to all, and a huge, tearful thank you to the FGC team and FGC clients.
